Jean G. Hersbergen was born November 13, 1926 at Owatonna, Minnesota daughter of Eise and Trienge (Lewerke) Sluik. Her family moved to Britt, Iowa where she attended school. She was married to Kenneth Ihde in March, 1948 and they lived in California. He preceded her in death in September, 1948. Jean then returned to Iowa and married Dale S. Hersbergen on October 14, 1949, in Britt. The lived and farmed in the Corwith and LuVerne area before moving to Algona in 1974. In 1971, Jean became a licensed minister in Anchor Bay Evangelistic Association in Aurora, Illinois and served as pastor of Faith Mission Church in Algona for many years. Jean enjoyed reading her bible, puzzle books, and being with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed writing poetry and music and playing the organ and piano. She died Monday, July 31, 2006 at her residence in Algona and the age of 79.

She is survived by three children, Richard Ihde of Russellville, AR, Karen Thompson and her husband Larry of Ringsted, and Martin Hersbergen of Algona; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Sluik of Manly; and many nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, Peter and Hans Sluik; and one sister, Ella Perkins.
