BLOOMINGTON, IL - Helen E. Dungey, 85, a resident of El Paso Health Care Center, El Paso, formerly of 1605 Six Points Road, Bloomington, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday (April 14, 2002) at the nursing home. Her funeral will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Randy Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Foundation or to Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington.
She was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Corwith, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Nelle V. Cheney Mandler. She married Charles Dungey on Feb. 2, 1936, in Indiana. He died May 28, 1993.
Survivors include one son, Byron E. (Eilleen) Dungey, Carlock; four grandchildren, Beth Smith, Indianapolis; Cathy Stickelmaier, Springboro, Ohio; Doris Dungey, Upper Marlborough, Md.; and Rusty Dungey, Bloomington; and five great-grandchildren. Her parents, one sister, one brother and one infant grandson precede her in death.
Helen was a member of Centennial Church, Bloomington. She was also a member of the YMCA " Rusty Hinges" and the Machinist Lodge 1000. She had formerly worked at General Electric Co., Bloomington, for over 17 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening and had an interest in stock car racing and tractor pulls. She enjoyed making doll clothes. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
