GIBSON CITY, IL – Arthur R. Benz, age 89, of Gibson City died at 6:31 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. Private graveside services will be held at a later date in Drummer Township Cemetery.

Mr. Benz was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Corwith, Iowa, a son of Harry W. and Clara W. (Koehler) Benz. He married Juanita H. Hutchinson on Sept. 4, 1943, in Memphis, Tenn. She died Aug. 4, 1997. Surviving are a son, Steven (Mary Pat Dean) Benz of Stevens Point, Wis.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley. Mr. Benz graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940 and its law school in 1949. He practiced law in Peoria for one year, then moved to Paxton in 1950 where he was a lawyer until 1969. He then moved to Gibson City and opened his own service where he retired from in 1983. Mr. Benz was a member of the Gibson City United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and was a member of the American Legion and the Gibson City Rotary Club. Memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
