Eagle Grove/Storm Lake--- Elizabeth “Betty” Coletta (Thielen) Glowczewsky, the daughter of Mathias and Mary Magdalen (Wawers) Thielen, was born May 6, 1912, in Chicago, Illinois. As a young child, she moved to Iowa with her family and was raised near Woolstock. Betty worked as a cook for her brother Joe at Wimpy’s Café and also worked in an ammunition factory during wartime in Des Moines and Ohio. On May 23, 1955, Betty was united in marriage with Joseph A. Glowczewsky at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. The couple lived in Springfield, MO, Wahoo, NE, Grand Island, NE and Storm Lake. Joseph preceded her in death on February 22, 2001. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.
Betty passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 98 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John, Peter, Theodore and sister-in-law, Eleanor, Raymond, Mathias and sister-in-law, Isabel, Joseph and Anthony; sister, Coletta Duitscher and brother-in-law, Harold and a nephew, Michael Duitscher. Betty is survived by her sister-in-laws, Myrtle Thielen of Eagle Grove, Dorothy Thielen of Ottumwa and Joanne Glow of Omaha, NE and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. in Eagle Grove with Father Nils Hernandez celebrating, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. Memorials may be left to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Masses and the Haiti Children’s Fund.
