John A. Long, age 89, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 peacefully with his children present. He was born June 9, 1919 in Corwith, Iowa to the late John and Annie Long. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Ruth, siblings, Lewis Long and Helen Shoaff. John is survived by his children, John Long Jr. and Janis (Larry) Kahle; grandchildren, Amy Kraszewski, Abby (Chris) George, Pam (Paul) Bender, Craig Kahle; great-grandchildren, Caroline Kraszewski, Kelsey and Kendal George, Ryan Bender. During World War II John served as a Captain in the 226th Signal Operations Company. Battles and campaigns included Tunisia, Rome/Arno, Southern France, Central Europe, and Rhineland. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the European Theater of Operations Medal with five bronze stars, American Defense Medal, five overseas service bars, and a unit meritorious plaque. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of Grove City, a Shriner of the Aladdin Temple, and an active member of the Grove City United Methodist Church since 1957 holding a number of offices within the church.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway with interment to follow at Concord Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service beginning at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grove City United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 2684 Columbus Street, Grove City, Oh. 43123.
