July 22, 1900 -- July 17, 1963

Final rites for Charles Elmer Meikle, of Graceton, Minnesota were held at Helgeson's Chapel here Friday afternoon with Elder Jack Scutherland of the Latter Days Saints officiating. Pallbearers were Roy Sorrels, Hubert Venter, Godfrey Olson, James Thompson, Jaynes Hedman and Elder Davis. Interment was in the Potamo Cemetery south of Graceton.

Born July 22, 1900 in Superior, Iowa, Charles Meikle grew up in that area and remained there for several years after his marriage to Annie Laurie Mantz at Clarion, Iowa August 16, 1920. It was in 1923 that the couple moved to Minneapolis, where they made their home for three years before coming to the Lake of the Woods area to reside in the Graceton community. That has remained the family home although Mr. and Mrs. Meikle spent most of their winters in warmer climates. He engaged in farming principally.

Surviving in addition to the widow include two children, James Junior Meikle, of Graceton, and Mrs, Cecil Wakefield (Aleen) of Phoenix, Arizona, who has been residing in this area the past few months. There are also ten grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Walter Garling of Spencer, Iowa. His parents, a sister and a grandchild preceded him in death. He died in Trinity hospital July 17, at the age of 62 years 11 months, and 25 days.
