CLEAR LAKE, IA - Wayne W. "Bud" Badker, 83, of 901 Fifth Ave S., Clear Lake, died Monday (Aug. 9, 2010) at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center, Manly. A funeral service will be held for Bud at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery with full military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010) from 5 until 7 p.m. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 No. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Wayne "Bud" Badker Memorial Fund in care of Dennis Badker, 2340 170th St., Klemme, IA 50449.

Wayne Welker Badker was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Clear Lake, the son of Roy and Laura (Welker) Badker. Bud attended Ventura school and helped his father farm. He was baptized and has been a lifelong member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army in 1945, during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1947. Bud was united in marriage to LaVohn Schlawin on Sept. 7, 1947, at the Reformed Evangelical Church in Klemme. To this union a son was born. Bud farmed many years until his retirement in 1997 at the age of 70. Bud was a crop adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance and was a substitute mail route carrier for 18½ years. Bud was a member of the Quarter Horse Association, was a Farmers Elevator board member for 12 years and lifetime member of AmVets and the Clear Lake V.F.W. Bud enjoyed playing golf, snowmobiling, bowling on league and wintering in Mesa, Ariz., for numerous years.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, LaVohn Badker, Clear Lake; son, Dennis Badker, and his wife, Karen, Klemme; and two grandchildren, Scott (Tina) Badker, Garner and Curt (Michele) Badker, Clear Lake; four great-grandchildren, Wade and Austin Lohman and Michaela Delzer and Drake Badker; along with one nephew and other relatives and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Theone (Art) Risse. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, IA
