Aged Lady Dies Here Saturday
Mrs. Caroline Osmundsen, 94, Passes at Home of Daughter-in-Law, Funeral Rites Wednesday

Mrs. Caroline Osmundsen, 94, relinquished her claim to the honor of being Estherville’s oldest woman when she slipped quietly away in death Saturday morning at 8 o’clock at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hattie Osmundsen, county recorder. For one of her years she had enjoyed good health but had gradually become weaker, the decline being more rapid in the past few weeks.

Her birthday, which occurred on October 25, was observed by her children and grandchildren on Sunday, Nov. 3, and at that time she was only partially aware of those about her. Mrs. Osmundsen came to Emmet county in 1882 with her husband and family and with the exception of short periods has resided here continuously since then.

She was born on October 25, 1841, at Drammen, Norway. As an infant of six months she came to America with her parents and lived at Primrose, Dane county, Wis., until her marriage as a girl of 19, to John Osmundsen. They continued to reside in Dane county on a farm until 1881 when Mr. and Mrs. Osmundsen and their children moved to Iowa and in 1882 to a farm at Eagle Lake in Emmet county. In 1900 they moved into Estherville. Since her husband’s death in 1909, Mrs. Osmundsen has lived with her youngest son John and with her daughter-in-law.

The deceased woman was the mother of nine children and she survived all but three of them, Oren H. of Minneapolis, Will of St. Maries, Idaho, and Mrs. Curtis Hunt of Devil’s Lake, N.D.
Three children, Mary, Helena and Freddie passed away while the family still resided in Wisconsin, and three have died within quite recent years. They are Mrs. Geo. Barth, Mrs. Will Trowbridge and John. One brother, O. W. Hendrickson, of St. Paul, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive the passing of this capable and kindly woman.

Funeral services are being held tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon from the home at 515 North Twelfth and at two-thirty from the Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer will be in charge.
