Daily Herald - Austin, Minnesota
June 15, 1936

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Methodist church for Joseph Notestine, well known farmer resident of this community, who died at the farm home northeast of Lansing, Tuesday last. The Rev. W. Earle Shields, his pastor, conducted the service and interment was in Oakwood cemetery. ........ April 4, 1888, Mr. Notestine was married to Maxie Eggerth of Garnavillo, Iowa, and they farmed in Humboldt county, Iowa. In Luverne, Iowa, he conducted an implement business and at Hardy, he conducted a general mercantile business at Hardy and there the children of the family were born, Charles of Newton, IA, Leo of Minneapolis, Earl and John of Austin, also the daughter, Mildred, wife of Attorney Rodney Dunnette.......In 1918, the family came to Austin and he bought considerable farm land. Every piece of property which he owned, he improved and beautified and all went well until the depression period, which took a great toll of his savings, of his life toil, also took its toll in the health of this good man who worked hard for his family that they might be provided for and he and his wife, too, could enjoy the fruits of their labor in their retired years. They lived in Austin for many years but moved back to a farm parcel of property where they remained until his passing. His health failed some ten years ago and last January he was stricken seriously ill and has been confined to his bed since.

Mr. Notestine was a life long member of the Methodist church and was active in its work. His life companion and the children gave their best also to the church work in various departments. He kept the faith and when adverse conditions came in the recent years, he did not complain, but admirably took up the work again and made another start, moving back to the farm that he might better care for the property for which he had already given his best strength and energy. He made a new resolve and kept to this post until health failed and strength waned and his last days were hopeful that all would be well.
Relatives who came to attend the funeral of the late Mr. Notestine included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Notestine and daughters Bernadine and Lohrbelle of Newton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Notestine and children Shelden and Crystal of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Harley Notestine of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Harry and Archie Notestine of Hardy, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Eggerth and daughter Elaine, Mr. and Mrs. George Eggerth and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eggerth of Renwick, Iowa; Mrs Jennie Dunnette, Mrs. Clifford Dunnette, and Lawrence Dunnette, of Rochester and Herbert Dunnette of Byron. Charles Notestine and family left for their home yesterday. Mrs. Leo Notestine and children remained to spend a week here with her mother, Mrs Ida Furtney.
