GARNER, IA -- George W. Nannenga, 77, died Saturday (June 22, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center West, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 West, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Larry Yeoman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 East Fourth Street, Garner.
George Washington Nannenga, a son of Henry and Gertie (Ibeling) Nannenga, was born June 22, 1919, at Alexander. He attended the rural schools of Alexander and Ventura and served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. On April 22, 1948, he was married to Melva Cannon at the Lakeside Church near Clear Lake. The couple farmed in the Garner-Klemme area for 25 years and then moved into Garner. George had worked for Urich Implement in Garner and retired in 1982. He enjoyed his family and going uptown to visit with his coffee friends. He also enjoyed the outdoors and watching baseball games.
He is survived by his wife, Melva, of Garner; a son, Dennis Nannenga and his wife, Cathy, of Garner; two grandchildren, Henry and Lenita Nannenga, both of Garner; a brother, Herman Nannenga, and his wife, Virginia, of Mason City; and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Nannenga of Mason City and Mavis Nannenga of Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jacob and Clarence Nannenga; and a sister, Marie Nannenga.
