Ernest Leo Cramer, the son of Henry and Sophie Minnie (Moldenhauer) Cramer, was born April 17, 1905, at Duncan. At the age of 1, Ernie moved with his family to Ellendale, N.D., where he attended country school. At the age of 12, the family moved again, this time to Battle Lake, Minn., where Ernie farmed with his father until 1928. He then moved to the LuVerne area where he worked as a farmhand. He continued in this occupation working on farms in the Kanawha, Corwith and Wesley areas until Dec. 18, 1940, when he married Laura Kirchgatter at the Lutheran Church in LuVerne. Laura and Ernie began farming north of Britt and lived there 10 years before moving to the farm west of Kanawha where they farmed until about 1970 at which time Ernie retired because of failing health. Ernie's beloved Laura passed away Feb. 22, 1976, and Ernie's health problems persisted. He entered the Kanawha Community Home in September 1976, where he pursued an interest in woodworking.
Ernie's sisters are Laura Jespersen and her husband, Bob, and their children, of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; and Lucille Carson and children, of Sacramento, Calif. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Adolph and Louis.
