BELMOND, IA -- Edward Alfred Bohning, 91, of Belmond, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 31, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Home.

Edward was born on Sept. 2, 1904, west of Belmond, the son of Simon and Carrie Steenblock Bohning. He attended country schools near Belmond. Edward lived most of his life on a farm west of Belmond. On Feb. 11, 1934, he was united in marriage with Bernice Davenport in Belmond. The couple lived on a farm west of Belmond until 1964 when Edward retired and they moved into town. Edward liked to spend his time fishing, bowling, gardening and playing cards. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Edward is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Belmond; three daughters, Nyle Jenison and her husband, Bradley, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Karen Kusian and her husband, Donald, of Belmond, and Alta Barkema and her husband, Randall, of Charles City; four granddaughters, Nyla Shepherd and her husband, Richard, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Donita Anders and her husband, Roger, of Marshalltown; Tami Kusian of West Des Moines, and Kim Draisey and her husband, Perri, of Keota; four grandsons, Brad Jenison of Tallahassee, Fla.; Kevin Jenison and his wife, Mary Ann, of Lake Worth, Fla.; Todd Barkema and his wife, Renee, of Monticello, and Kevin Barkema and his wife, Gayle, of Marshalltown; eight great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Pearl Aldinger of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Andrew, Peter, Sam, Paul and David; and two sisters, Martha and Gail. He was also preceded in death by Johnny Mikesh, who was raised as a brother.
