BELMOND, IA — Edward Pals, 79, of Alexander, died Saturday (May 9, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Reformed Church near Belmond. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.

Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazetteBELMOND — Edward Pals, 79, of Alexander, passed away Friday (May 8, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Reformed Church near Belmond with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Private family committal service will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond. There will be no viewing at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa.
Edward Pals was born July 11, 1918, in Alexander, the son of Dick L. and Elizabeth Kuper Pals. Edward attended country schools, graduating from Alexander High School in 1935. After high school, he farmed with his father. On Sept. 22, 1945, he was united in marriage with Margaret Ellen Dougherty in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond where Ed farmed. They later moved to Swaledale, then to Mason City where he also farmed until 1982. Ed then retired in Clear Lake. He enjoyed playing cards and pool. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Katherine Ann Scherffius, and her husband, Frank, of Raymore, Mo.; two sons, Dennis, and his wife, Joan, of Highland Ranch, Colo., and Tony, and his wife, Nadine, of Mason City; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Allie Pastour and Minnie Mennenga, both of Belmond; and his companion, Glee Belle Mennenga, of Meservey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Joseph Pals; four brothers, Bernard, John, Lambert and Dick; and five sisters, Margaret Dirkson, Clara Horton, Kate Dorenkamp, Martha Meinders and Esther Boelman.
