SWALEDALE, IA — Blanche Laidley Polsdofer, 95, died Tuesday (June 30, 1998) at the Belmond Care Center, Belmond. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Lewis Bram officiating. Burial will take place in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Blanche was born July 5, 1902, in Beatle County, South Dakota, the daughter of Chris and Minnie (Moltz) Johnson. Blanche grew up and attended school at Ringsted, Iowa, and entered nurses training in Algona where she met and married Lawrence G. Laidley on March 4, 1922. In 1954 they moved to Swaledale where she was head cook until her retirement. Blanche received Christ as her saviour as a young married woman. Lawrence passed away on May 5, 1960. On Oct. 1, 1965, she married Harvey Polsdofer. Harvey preceded her in death in May, 1980.
When the Lord called her home, she had enjoyed many years as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. They all enjoyed her sincere joy at their accomplishments. Besides being a very busy mother, she was also a 4-H leader, church deaconess, member of the Baptist Mission Aid, Senior Citizens Club, Rockwell-Swaledale School cook and a member of the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Society.
Left to mourn her passing are seven daughters, Lorraine Eddy and her husband, Elmer, Swaledale, Maxine Morris and her husband, the late Pat Morris, Meservey, Marilyn Hinderaker and her husband, Lester, Story City, Janet Nessa and her husband, Duane, Garden City, Janice Brandt and her husband, Kenneth, Hubbard, Maridee Ward and her husband, Dennis, Belmond, Judy Laidley of Pasadena, Calif.; one stepson, James Polsdofer and his wife, Geraldine, Rockwell; 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, Blanche was preceded in death by three sisters, two great-grandchildren and one step-grandson.
