Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaSAN DIEGO, Calif. - Roger James Moon, 59, formerly of Eagle Grove, Iowa, was born May 20, 1951 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Marie Moon of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He passed away July 18, 2010, peacefully in his sleep at his home in San Diego. Roger graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School in 1966 and received his Eagle Scout Award from The Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1970. In 1973, Roger was name an Outstanding Athlete of America. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education from the University of South Dakota, Springfield, S.D. in 1974. From 1974 to 1976 he was employed as an Industrial Arts teacher and assistant wrestling coach at Norfolk Sr. High School, Norfolk, Neb. In 1976 he received his Master of Arts degree in Industrial Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo. In 1977 he accepted a teaching position at San Diego State University, San Diego. In 1979 he became owner and operator of Warehouse Equipment of San Diego.
Roger is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cecilia (Avila) Moon; their daughter, Joanna; his mother, Marie Moon and a sister, Loretta Moon, both of Eagle Grove, Iowa. His father, Clifford Moon, preceded him in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 30 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Catholic Church at USD (University of San Diego, Calif.). Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Rev. Matt Spahr officiating. Arrangements were coordinated by Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove, Iowa.
