Burnell D. (Hugo) Hagen, 83, of Nevada, died of pneumonia on Friday, Feb. 7, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. He was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Dows to Clarence M. and Charlotte E. (Trowbridge) Hagen. He served during W.W. II. He married Genevieve Hoel House on July 25, 1942, in Tacoma, Wash. He was in the plumbing and heating business. He was also one of the co-founders and builders of the bowling alley in Nevada. He was owner of the Home Acres Trailer Court in Nevada. He served as mayor of Nevada for eight years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, V.F.W. William F. Ball American Legion Post No. 48 and Rotary. He enjoyed baseball and was a coin collector. He had been a resident of Nevada for the past 47 years. Survivors include his wife, Genevive Hagen of Nevada; a son, Ronnie House of Mount Airy, N.C.; a daughter, Lola Haynes of Burnsville, Minn.; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Russ Hagen of Cedar Falls, Dean Hagen of Omaha, Neb., and Max Hagen of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Corrine Hagen; and a son, Russell House Jr. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial, with military rites, followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
