Mrs. James McGowan
Jessie Steele Young, daughter of Robert and Janet Young, was born Dec. 17, 1870 in Tama county. She died Oct. 31, 1929 at Rochester, Minn., age 58 years, 10 months, 14 days. At an early age she made public confession of her faith in Christ and was received into the U. P. church at Traer, Ia. On March 19, 1890 she was united in marriage to James McGowan of Traer, Ia. To this union twelve children were born, ten of whom survive to mourn the death of a beloved mother: James, Arlo, Eathyle, Donald, Marion and Will of Goldfield, Mrs. George Bell and Robert McGowan of Renwick, Mrs. Guy Peterson, of Dows and Mrs. Bert Helmke of Lohrville. Besides the husband and children she leaves an aged mother who has made her home with Mrs. McGowan for several years, also three grandchildren, one brother, John Young of Traer, two sisters, Mrs. Sam Dalziel of Traer and Janie Young of Independence, and a host of other Relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. McGowan farmed two years northwest of Traer, after which they moved to their present home south of Renwick. She changed her membership at this time to the U. P. church of Goldfield and was a faithful member until her death. Mrs. McGowan possessed a genial disposition and was always happy and contented. She was a kind, affectionate and true wife, mother and friend. She bore up bravely during her illness and was hopeful, cheerful and patient to the last. Funeral services were held at the home last Monday at one o'clock and at the U. P. church in Goldfield at two o'clock, Rev. R. J. McCracken preaching. Burial was made at the Goldfield cemetery.
