MESERVEY, IA - Merle G. Frohling, age 75, of Meservey died Tuesday (July 6, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Merle Gene, the son of Herman and Annie Koenen Frohling, was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Belmond. He grew up in the Belmond, Thornton and Meservey areas, where Merle attended schools. Merle was united in marriage to Deloras Stevens on Sept. 13, 1955, in Belmond. The couple made their home in Meservey where they raised a family. Merle worked for the lumberyard in Meservey, the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, and was a salesman for Moor-Mans Feed for more than 22 years. Merle and Dee also owned and operated M & D Service in Meservey for several years. Merle was a member of the Meservey Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the Meservey City Council and as mayor of Meservey.
Merle is survived by his wife, Dee; two sons, Mike and wife, Sue, of Meservey and Mark of Meservey; two grandchildren, Bill Hicok and wife, Amy, of Mason City and Laurie Dusold and Jeremie Johanns of Kanawha; great grandson, Jackson Johanns; a brother, Byron of Waterloo and numerous other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lola, Gladys and Loretta; and two brothers, Donald and Dale. Private memorial services for Merle Frohling were held.
