Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazetteALEXANDER - Bernard George Bohman, 72, of Alexander, passed away Sunday (Dec. 5, 1999) at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services for Bernard G. Bohman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.8, at the First Reformed Church in Alexander, with Pastor Rob Ford officiating. Burial will take place in the Alexander Cemetery of Alexander, with Military rites under the direction of Latimer American Legion Post No. 658. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church.
Bernard, the son of Henry and Gertie (Modderman) Bohman, was born May 21, 1927 on the family farm near Alexander, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in the Alexander area. At an early age Bernard began farming with his father. Bernard was united in marriage with Alberta Zech at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Iowa on Sept. 16, 1951. The couple made their home on a farm near Alexander. In December of 1952, Bernard entered the U.S. Army where he served for one year in Korea. Following his time of service, he returned to Alexander where he farmed. Bernard farmed his entire life and never really retired. He also worked for a time for Larro Feeds. Bernard was a member of the Alexander Reformed Church. He also served as a trustee for the Alexander Fire Department, was on the Alexander Housing Board, a member of the Alexander Community Club, Belmond VFW, Latimer American Legion and served as an ASC Committee member. He enjoyed bowling, pool, playing cards, horseshoes, fishing, traveling and gardening.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Alberta; daughter, Melody Parks and her husband, Steve, of Newton; three sons, Doug Bohman and his wife, Kathy, of Rockwell, Randy Bohman, of Thornton, and Kevin Bohman, of Alexander; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Jennifer, Scott, Tabitha, Mike, Brittany and Tanner; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Effie Olson, of Alexander; a sister-in-law, Norma Bohman, of Alexander; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Zech and his wife, Marilyn, of Spirit Lake, and Eugene Zech and his wife, Peggy, of Mitchell, S.D.; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Roger and Lucille Boelman, of Belmond. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and a brother-in-law, Arnie Olson. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
