Mildred Rosina Barth Trager, 90, of Alexander, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2002, at the Franklin Nursing Facility in Hampton, Iowa. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 13, 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Latimer, with Pastor Jeff Long officiating. Burial was in the Marion Center Cemetery in rural Latimer. Willim Funeral Home of Latimer was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Trager was born the youngest child of Reverend Christian J. and Catherina (Boepple) Barth on August 7, 1912, at the Marion Center Evangelical Church parsonage near Hampton. Mildred received her education in the rural school at Marion Center and high school at Alexander and Latimer, graduating at Latimer High School in 1930. She kept house for her father for six years after her mother died. On June 9, 1938, Mildred married Fred Elmer Trager. They farmed near Alexander for over 57 years, where she was a full-time homemaker. Mildred played church organ for about 25 years, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of Dorcas Society. She belonged to the Farm Bureau Women’s organizations in Franklin and Wright counties and sang in the Franklin County Farm Bureau Women’s Chorus. During retirement she enjoyed traveling and attending community events as well as visiting the sick, elderly, and shut-ins.

Living family members include her husband of 64 years, Fred; three children: Robert (Nancy) Trager, Hampton, Rosemary Matthews, Emmetsburg, Vergene Herbert Trager, Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren: Jill Trager of Ames, Eric Trager of Audubon, Sarah Trager of Pleasanton, CA, Melvin Matthews of Perry, MO, Sarah Baxter of Storm Lake; and eight great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Cornelia Barth of Kenosha, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Victor Barth, Herbert Barth, and Theodore Barth; and three sisters: Bertha Meyer, Meta Meyer, and Frieda Bazeau; and one great-grandchild.
