VENTURA, IA - Ruth Alice Kimball, 96, of Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, formerly of Ventura, died Wednesday (Dec. 1, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour before services on Saturday at the Church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Ventura United Methodist Church.

Alice was born June 26, 1903, in Clinton, Ill., the daughter of Benjamin F. and Ruth (Sprague) Whetsler. She moved with her family to Corwith, when she was 10 years old. She attended school at Clinton, Ill., and Corwith. Alice was united in marriage to Walter L. Kimball in Corwith on July 22, 1922. She helped her husband, Walter, from the time they were married until they retired. They farmed near Clear Lake, Klemme and owned and operated a harness and shoe shop in Klemme and a shoe shop in Boone. They owned and operated the Elm Bend Resort in Ventura for 22 years. Everyone enjoyed Alice's donuts and chocolate cookies in her lunchroom. She had a full life with working and raising her family. After retiring, she enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and crafts. The love of her life was playing her piano.

Alice is survived by four children, Robert Kimball and his wife, Nettie, of Ventura, Nadine Blank and her husband (Cap) J.E., of Goodell, Donald E. Kimball and his wife, Betty, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ruth D. Floyd, of Pocola, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter, in 1979; three brothers, Henry, Wes and Frank Whetsler; and three sisters, Almeda Liptrap, Bertie Unger and Ara Tabb. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
