Hanlontown, IA - Andrew “Andy” Michael Oswald, 74, of 3608 Eagle Ave. Hanlontown passed away Monday, March 3rd, at the Good Shepard Center in Mason City. A memorial service will be held Tuesday March 11, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Fertile Lutheran Church with Lay Pastor Dave Halverson, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Family suggests memorials to the Alzheimers Unit at the Mayo Clinic, Hospice of North Iowa, and the Fertile Lutheran Church.

Andy was born April 15, 1933 in Manly IA, to Leo James Oswald and Genevieve Randall Oswald. He graduated in 1950 from Mason City High School, then attended Mason City Junior College and Iowa State University in Ames. He was drafted into the military in 1953 and served during the Korean War and was discharged in 1955. He married Patricia Legge on February 3, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Klemme, IA. Andy served on the North Iowa Fair Board, was a director for the Hancock County REC, a 4-H leader in Cerro Gordo and Worth Counties, and on the 4-H and Extension Council in Cerro Gordo County, and he was on the Farm Bureau Board. He was also a past president of the Worth County Cattlemen’s Association, and was a Township Trustee of Bristol and Fertile. Andy also served on the Council of Bethany Lutheran of Joice, was on the Joice Betterment Committee, Brush Point Cemetery Board, and was part of the Pleasant Ridge Club and Rural Young People Club. Andy farmed for 60 years and owned and operated the Century farm of his grandparents. Andy was a gentle man, with a wonderful sense of humor and was a devoted father and husband and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Oswald, Hanlontown IA; daughter, Annette ( Rolly) O’Donnell, Joice, IA; son, Randall (Patti) Oswald, Joice, IA; grandchildren; Andrew Mason Oswald, Ashley O’Donnell, Josi (Seth) Thompson, and Cody Askvig; a great grandchild to be, Baby Thompson in May 2008; a sister, Sara (John) Innes, Council Bluffs, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in law, George and Edna Legge, and a brother in law James Legge and his wife.
