Longtime Anchorage resident Melvin LaVerne Overlees, 81, died June 15, 2004, at Alaska Regional Hospital. No service is planned. His ashes will be spread at Eureka. Mr. Overlees was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Klemme, Iowa. He became a resident of Alaska in 1952. He worked at a health spa and at Sunrise Bakery, from which he retired on March 31, 1983. He had also been a member of the Teamsters. He was a member of Anchorage Baptist Temple. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and snow machining. He was one of the founders and a lifetime member of the Alaska State Snowmachining Association.

Mr. Overlees is survived by his wife, Mildred Overlees of Anchorage; daughter, Lisa Santiago of Anchorage; son, Charles Hancock of Anchorage; daughter, Charlotte Fowler of Phoenix; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
