John Henry Suckow, 65, a lifetime resident of the Klemme community, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, May 29, 1956, while supervising a construction job on the Erwin Nuehring farm in Twin Lake Township. He was born December 16, 1890, on a farm in Liberty Township, the second of seven children born to Henry Suckow and Taldine Brouwer Suckow. He attended the rural school nearby. And after receiving the usual religious instruction, became a member of the Liberty Methodist Church. On September 27, 1916, John Henry Suckow, age 25, and Edna Schuldt, age 22, were married. Mr. Suckow was a carpenter by trade, and for many years, was foreman of the construction crew, at the Northern Lumber Company of Klemme Iowa. And while the husband, John, built the home with its pleasant front porch, with his own hands, the wife, Edna, was busy planting shrubs and flowers to beautify the setting.

Truly there is no place like home. Especially if you build the place with your own hands. Here they lived, loved, and enjoyed their own home for the nearly forty years of their married life. So many things can happen, and do happen, in a home during forty years. There was rejoicing in this home, from time to time, when babies were born-three of them- Irene, Wesley, and Helen. There was weeping in this home, now and then, throughout the years, when the angel of death called and took their loved ones. Again there was gladness within the walls of this home, as the children grew up, were married and left the parental roof. And now a most joyful noise eminates from this home, as the eight reandchildren call to romp and play, and eat grandmother's cookies.

And finally, after a lifetime of service to his family and friends, and just before the infirmities of old age arrive, the Master says "well done", and John Henry Suckow is taken from us. His age, 65 years, 5 months, and 15 days.

He leaves besides his wife; three children; Irene, Mrs. Arnett Waddingham, Clear Lake, Iowa; Wesley Suckow, Klemme, Iowa; and Helen, Mrs. Thomas Roths, Jr., Klemme, Iowa. Two sisters: Etna, Mrs Hearman Paul, Klemme, Iowa; and Mae, Mrs. Lawrence Schaefer, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Three brothers: Carl Suckow, Springfield, Missouri; Rev. Wm. Suckow, Shueyville, Iowa; and Louis Suckow, Mason City, Iowa. Also eight grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
