OSAGE, IOWA — Melvin E. Jensen, 85, of Osage died Saturday (April 17, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Melvin was born on December 14, 1918, at Klemme, Iowa, the son of Martin and Laura (Larsen) Jensen. The family moved to the Mitchell area in 1936. Melvin graduated from Mitchell High School in 1937. He married Mary Theis on June 24, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Melvin farmed with his father, Martin, and his brother, Elmer, until 1967, when Elmer left farming and moved to Illinois. He continued farming, with his sons joining him in the early 1970s. Melvin enjoyed feeding cattle and trading fat and feeder cattle at the South Saint Paul Stockyards for four decades. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, fishing trips to Canada, following the Minnesota Twins, attending tractor pulls, picking strawberries, dancing, and following his children and grandchildren in their activities.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before services at the church on Friday.

He is survived by his wife, Mary N. (Theis) Jensen, of Osage; his children, Steven Jensen and his wife, Connie, of Mitchell, and their children, Brad and Stacy; Jayne Clark and her husband, Robert, of Sarasota, Fla., and their children, Courtney, Kaitlin and Kelly; Dennis Jensen and his wife, Cathy, of Osage, and their children Ryan, Kristi, and Katie; James Jensen and his wife, Cheryl, of Austin, Minn., and their children, Brody and Briana; brother, Elmer Jensen and his wife, Violet, of Rock Falls, Ill.; and sister, Eva Taylor and her husband, Gordon, of Mason City; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
