ELLSTON, IA — Rojean Duben, 79, of Ellston, formerly of Creston, died Sunday March 29, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Powers Funeral Home, Jct. Hwy 34 and 25, in Creston. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Pastor Dan Fernandez will officiate. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Powers Funeral Home, Jct. Hwy 34 and 25, in Creston, with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Memorials are to the Ellston United Methodist Church or Ellston First Responders.
Rojean Jane was born December 29, 1929, in Green Island, IA, to Anna M. (Ingwersen) and Otto H. Johannsen. She graduated from Miles High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State Teachers College graduating in 1949. On June 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Bernard Duane Duben in Preston, IA. They settled in Whiting, IA, where she taught 3rd grade until moving to Creston in 1960. While in Creston, Rojean was a homemaker and substitute teacher, moving to Klemme in 1979 and to Osceola in 1986 and Sun Valley Lake in 1992. She was a member of the Ellston United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, PEO and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include one son, Mark (wife, Kelly) Duben of Urbandale; one daughter, Tami (husband, Jim) Flowers of Creston; one brother, Harlan (wife, Wilma) Johannsen of Morrison, Ill.; one sister, Donna (husband, Walter) Loomis of Savanna, Ill.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Rojean was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bernard, in 2003.
