EDNA JUNE (POOLMAN) BOYINGTON

Edna Boyington, 83, died Thursday, January 18, 2001, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Monday, January 22, 2001 at the United Church of Rowan with Rev. JoAn Skyrme officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Edna June Poolman was born June 17, 1917, on a farm south of Clarion to Alfred and Elizabeth Dunford Poolman. She was educated through 8th grade in Dayton Township #6 Country School. In 1935 Edna graduated from Clarion High School with a normal training degree and taught school at Lincoln #9 for 2 years. She married Wesley Boyington on June 18, 1938. She became a homemaker and she and Wes began their married life on a farm near Galt. They farmed for 11 years south of Clarion, in 1951 they moved to a farm near Rowan and farmed until retirement. In 1987 they moved to a home in Rowan and in 1993 moved to "The Meadows" in Clarion. After the death of her husband, she moved to Ames to live with her daughter, Arlene. She spent much of her time raising six children and transporting them to various activities. She enjoyed creative writing, calligraphy and writing poetry, some of which was published. She was very active in the Rowan Untied Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and held many offices in the United Methodist Women. She held various offices in Wright county Farm Bureau, Wright County Federated Club, Rowan Progress Club and the Wright County Extension Program. Preceding her in death were her husband Wesley, her parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Poolman, four sisters, Edith Gentry, Mary Meier and two sisters who died in infancy. Survivors include her children, Arlene of Ames, George and wife Sally of Clarion, Ardeth and husband Paul Rietz of Ames, Vicky and husband Larry Fluhrer of Clarion, Jim and wife Kathy of Sac City and Jerry and wife Tana of Rowan, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and one brother-in-law, Lowell Meier of Wentzville, MO.
