July 13, 2000Jeremiah Michael O'Brien, 47, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, following a courageous battle with cancer. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond. Military rites were by the Belmond Honor Guard. Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond on Friday, July 7, with Fr. David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Music was provided by Maxine Whitty, organist; Rose Speth, cantor. Ushers were Art Benetti and Art Lamoureux. Casket bearers were Jim Eliason, Jack Williams, Rodney Brown, Jason O'Brien, Jim Redemske, and John Zinn.
Jeremiah Michael O'Brien, the son of Paul Joseph and Dorothy Jean (Clausen) O'Brien was born July 27, 1952, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fonda High school in 1970; served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, was discharged in 1972. He worked for Cole-Sewell Corporation. Jeremiah did local and state work for AA, where he worked the 12 Steps. He liked to play golf and liked to listen to music.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul; his maternal grandparents, Carl and Anne Clausen; and his paternal grandparents, Jeremiah and Ellen O'Brien. Jeremiah is survived by his mother, Dorothy O'Brien of Belmond; daughter, Jennifer O'Brien of Des Moines; son, Joseph O'Brien of Punta Gorda, FL; grandson, Zachary O'Brien; brothers, William O'Brien of Belmond, Kevin O'Brien and his wife Sharon of Webster City; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Jim Eliason of Belmond; several nephews, Travis, John, Christopher, Jason, Paul, Greg, and Tyler.
