December 14, 1934 -- March 2, 2008

James J. Mallinger — 73, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5th in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Sunny Dominic officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Duncombe. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. today at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, where there will be a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil at 7:00 p.m.

Survivors include his three children -- son, Brett (Sandra) of Thor, Colleen Owings (Jeff) and Collette Prill, both of Sheridan, Wyoming; 9 grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Raymond, Charles, John A.; sisters, Jean Gable, Mary Miller, Frances A. Stetson, Elizabeth McIntosh, Susan Harrold, Joan Cripe; and special friend, Angie Wiedien. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara, of 37 years, a brother, Gerald, brother-in-law, Joe Gable, a grandson, James J. Cerwick, and a son-in-law, John Prill.

James J. Mallinger was born December 14, 1934 in Duncombe, Iowa to John F. and Mary E. (Streff) Mallinger. He attended school in Duncombe. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and was honorably discharged. He married Barbara J. Crovisier on December 14, 1962 and they made their home in Fort Dodge. He was employed at Iowa Beef until the plant closed and then worked odd end jobs until he retired. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to watch the wildlife around him. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
