HOLLAND, Iowa — Services for Clive Patterson, 79, of R.R.1, who died Friday (Jan. 27) of natural causes at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, two miles west of Fern, with burial in the church cemetery. He farmed north of Grundy Center for most of his life, retiring in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Anna; a son, Glen of rural Holland; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Green of Des Moines; two brothers, Boyd of Dows and George of Des Moines; he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara in 1953; and two brothers, Clayton and Glen. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center and at the church prior to services. A memorial fund has been established.

Rites Held For Clive Patterson

Clive Patterson, 79, passed away at the Hospitality Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, on Friday, January 27. Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. Pastor Joel Brummel officiated.

Wayne Arends sang "How Great Thou Art," and "Amazing Grace." The accompanist was Mrs. Clarence Walterman, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and the postlude. Casket bearers were Gary Patterson, Randy Patterson, Eugene Meester, Duane Schipper, Dale Meester, and Al Meester. Ushers were Charles Freese and Johannes Meester. Jeanette Meester and Grace Meester were in charge of the floral arrangements. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Holland.

Clive Patterson was born July 17, 1909, at Galt, the son of George E. and Nannie Ruth Woodley Patterson. He grew up and attended country school in Blaine township, Wright county. Then he worked as a farmhand around Galt, until 1930, when he came to Grundy county and did farm work. On February 6, 1941, he was united in marriage to Anna A. Meester at the Pleasant Valley Church Parsonage, rural Holland. After their marriage they lived and farmed north of Grundy Center. Clive retired in 1984, but they continued to live and make their home on the farm. He was baptized and grew up in the Congregational Church at Galt, and later joined the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, and was active in the Sunday School program.

Clive was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Barbara, age 11, in 1953; and two brothers, Clayton and Glen. He is survived by his wife, Anna, of rural Holland; one son, Glen, of rural Holland; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Green, Des Moines; and two brothers, Boyd, of Dows, and George, of Des Moines. A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
