Arlene Shelton, 93, of Webster City, died Monday April 16, 2007 at Crestview Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery, north of Webster City. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday and at the church after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Arlene Shelton, 93, of Webster City, died Monday April 16, 2007 at Crestview Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery, north of Webster City. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and at the church after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Arlene Dorothy Doolittle, daughter of Art and Marie Claude Doolittle, was born Sept. 22, 1913 on a farm north of Webster City. She attended a Cass Township rural school, Webster City schools and graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1929. She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Dodge, Iowa becoming a registered nurse in 1934. She started working at the Hamilton County Public Hospital serving the community for 50 years, full time and part-time. During this time she also worked part-time in the community as a home health care nurse. On Dec. 15, 1938, she married Merle Alvin Shelton in the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Webster City. The couple farmed in Freedom and Cass townships north of Webster City. She retired from nursing in 1984. The couple had also wintered in Arizona for several years. Mr. Shelton died November 2, 1991.

Arlene is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Martha and Merrill Beightol of Eagle Grove; Jane and Jim Clark of Houston, TX; son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Shelton of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, Teresa Doolittle of Ankeny; Kevin Beightol of Webster City; Aimee Clark of Houston, TX; and Mitch Clark of Nagoya, Japan; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Allysa Doolittle of Ankeny; sister-in-law, Clarice Pearson of Stratford; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gladys Doolittle, in infancy; Verla Campbell and brother, George Doolittle.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she was active for many years in numerous areas; she was a longtime 4-H leader in Cass and Freedom townships and she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
