HAYFIELD, Minn. - Wayne C. Schoenwetter, 72, of 10626 100th St. S. W., died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) of cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Church at Hayfield with the Rev. Richard Dernak officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Hayfield. Visitation was held Tuesday at the Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services today at the church.

Wayne C. Schoenwetter was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Hancock County, a son of Edward and Nora (Swanson) Schoenwetter. Wayne C. Schoenwetter grew up on the family farm at Klemme, Iowa. He attended rural schools and Klemme High School. After high school, he worked at the Klemme Hardware store. He was united in marriage to Marie Nedved on Dec. 28, 1948, in Garner, Iowa. After his marriage, he worked at the hardware store until 1952, when the couple moved to a farm in Kanawha, Iowa. They farmed there until 1963 when they moved to their present farm in Rock Dell Township. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Hayfield. He was a supervisor for 13 years for Olmsted County Soil and Water Conservation. He was a board member for 20 years with Rochester Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. He was a past member of the Rock Dell Township Board and a member of the Rochester Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Tim and his wife, Sandi, of rural Stewartville, and Charles, of rural Hayfield; three daughters, Amy Schoenwetter, of Sturgis, S.D., Sarah Sommer and her husband, James, of Lewiston, Minn., and Carrie Schoenwetter, of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Irma Hansen, of Kanawha, and Wava Geary, of Corwith, Iowa; and one brother, Merle Schoenwetter, of Garner. He was preceded in death by one son, one sister and one brother.
