FOREST CITY, IA - Clarence C. Pals, 94, of Forest City died Monday (June 14, 2010) at Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St in Forest City. A prayer service will follow visitation at 7 p.m. on Thursday with Pastor Douglas Farrell officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.
Clarence C. Pals was born on June 3, 1916, near Goodell, the son of Klass and Mary (Saatoff) Pals. He grew up in Hancock County and attended rural schools and Clear Lake High School. As a young man he worked on the family farm and in later years worked for area farms. He married Marjorie Ellen Hockenson and they farmed near Fertile until her death in an auto accident. In 1944, Clarence married Mildred (Millie) Vonder Linde. The couple farmed near Manly until 1959 when they purchased their farm near Forest City. Clarence loved the farm. He was in the dairy business for years and also raised cattle and hogs. Farming with horses was a joy to him. Even as a young boy he loved to work with horses. He had a livestock hauling business for many years. Clarence retired in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Millie; a daughter, Judy, and her husband, Charles Madson, of Ventura; several nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two brothers, Dowia and Warren Pals, and six sisters, Greona Nelson, Gertie Pals, Elsie Rickard, Alma Nelson, Esther Beek and Gertrude Radloff.
