December 22, 1917 - January 23, 2010

James (Scoop) Norman Filloon, 92, Laurens, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the GSS Hovenden of Laurens, Laurens, Iowa. James was born December 22, 1917, at Hardy, Iowa to Floyd Russell and Emily (Baggs) Filloon. He attended schools at Goldfield, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge, and Pocahontas. On October 28, 1939, he married Violet Carlson at Fort Dodge, Iowa. They lived in Havelock and Pocahontas vicinities from 1939 – 1952 where James farmed and ran a gas station. From 1953 – 1958 he worked at the Pocahontas Lumber Store. Scoop and Vi moved to Laurens in 1958 and he worked at M & JR Hakes for 19 years before retiring in 1978. Scoop liked to fish with his grandchildren and friends. In his retirement years, he set up a wood-crafting shop and built a variety of lawn ornaments and other woodcraft items. He enjoyed driving around Laurens, checking out any changes or special happenings in the community. His greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren and family. Scoop and Vi celebrated their 50th, 60th and 70th anniversaries.

James is survived by his wife Violet, sons and their wives James and Maria of Sylmar, CA, Ken and Silvia of Des Moines, IA, and daughter Barbara and Robert Hanisch of Northfield, MN; brothers Robert (Therese) of St. Joseph, MO, Dean (Darlene) of Palmer, IA and sister Marge Quade of Havelock, IA; sisters-in-law Midge (Doyle) of Des Moines and Kay (Bill) of Spencer; eleven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Those preceding him in death include his parents, infant son Keith (twin with son Ken); brothers Doyle, Dayton, Bill and Dick, and sister Dorothy Buettner.
