Leelanau Enterprise, Lake Leelanau, MichiganJune 11, 1942 - February 3, 2009
John Pressly Kilpatrick, 66, passed away February 3 in Traverse City. He was born June 11, 1942, in Clarion, Iowa, to the Rev. Marion Kilpatrick and Erma (Pressly) Kilpatrick. He graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, in 1964 with a double major in math and physics. It was at Monmouth that he met his wife of 42 years, Anne, who survives. He worked in the telecommunications industry beginning at Western Electric in Chicago. He then spent over 30 years in St. Louis, Missouri, first with Western Electric, then with AT & T and finally with Lucent Technologies. In 2000 he and his wife realized their dream of building a home in Leelanau County. He enjoyed singing in his church and summer choirs, gazing for hours at the clear night skies, playing golf and studying - math, physics, archaeology, astronomy and the stock market! He thought volunteering was important, especially enjoying helping at Interlochen and working with senior citizens on their tax returns.
He is survived by three sons, Tom, of Traverse City, John (Mindy) of Leesburg, Georgia, Rob (Angela) of Durham, North Carolina, and his brother Bill (Janet) of Flower Mound, Texas. He is also survived by the two newest loves of his life, grandsons Blake and Michael, as well as numerous family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, at the Leland Community Methodist Church. The family will greet friends there beginning at 9:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Leland Community Methodist Church, PO Box 602, Leland, MI, 49654, or Munson Hospice House, 1105 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI, 49684.
