MASON CITY- Elsie (Nuehring) Peterson, 91, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, died Friday (Nov.1, 2002) at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Rich Murray officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or First Covenant Church.

Elsie was born Oct. 13, 1911, at Klemme, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ida (Schwichtenberg) Nuehring. Elsie was baptized at the age of seven months at the Klemme Germantown Methodist Church at Klemme. She attended rural school in Hancock County, located in Klemme, and rural school in Cerro Gordo County, located at Rockwell. She took confirmation at the Methodist Church in Rockwell and became a member of that church. She was united in marriage on April 6, 1937, to Joseph Peterson at the home of her parents, William and Ida Nuehring, in Rockwell. They made their home at 926 15th St. N.E. where she continued to live after her husband's death in 1983. Elsie was a resident of Mason City for more than 60 years. Due to health reasons, on Dec. 15, 1997, she entered Heritage Care Center and remained there until her death. Elsie was an avid gardener, she loved things of nature and enjoyed working with flowers and doing her gardening. Elsie also enjoyed knitting, fishing, traveling and playing cards.

She is survived by one brother, Lester Nuehring and his wife, Marjorie, from Mason City; two sisters, Hilda Hodge and Irene Stowe, both from Mason City; sister-in-law, Pearl Johnson, from Rochester, Minn., and another sister-in-law, Jeanette Nuehring, from Mason City; brother-in-law, Gerald Angell from Overland Park, Kan., and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Peterson in 1983; her father William Nuehring in 1960; and her mother, Ida Nuehring in 1967; sister Evelyn Johnson Gaffri in 1951; sister Janett Angell in 1977; five sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law and one niece.

Sisters, brother, aunt and the many nieces and nephews of Elsie Peterson will cherish her memory and would like to thank the many people for their prayers, kindness and their attendance at this service. Fullerton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
