Garner Leader and Signal, IowaEvelyn E. Schramm, 97, of Klemme, died on Monday, June 5, 2006, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9, at the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church with Rev. David Wiersbe officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn Ethel Schramm, the daughter of Gus and Lydia (Hesley) Schramm, was born on December 26, 1908, on a farm south of Hayfield. She attended the Hayfield Consolidated School graduating in 1927. Evelyn later continued her education at the Hamilton Business College in Mason City. In 1929, she moved to Chicago where she worked at the Moody Bible Institute and also attended classes. In the 1930's she returned to Garner where she worked for seven years as an assistant to Dr. Alder, a chiropractor in Forest City. In 1940 Evelyn moved to Seattle, Washington, and worked at Boeing Aircraft for several years. She then worked in Omaha for an airplane manufacturer until 1945. In 1949 she moved back to Chicago where she worked for the Moody Bible Institute until 1960. In 1964 she began working as a secretary for Kemper Insurance in Chicago until retiring in 1973. In December of 1973 she moved to Kanawha and in 1974 to Klemme. Evelyn sold and delivered livestock feed for McNess Inc. for 22 years, retiring in August of 1995. She enjoyed people, gardening, helping others and remodeling her home.
She is survived by her sister, Ruby Lackore of Clear Lake; niece, Doreen (Richard) Johnson of Garner; her nephew's wife, Betty Lackore of Clear Lake; special friends, Donna and Kenneth Weiland of Klemme; and many great-nieces. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Floy Lackore; brother-in-law, Clark Lackore; and a nephew, Doran Lackore.
