RAPID CITY, SD - Harold A Simpson, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on January 26th [2007] amid the loving care of his devoted family. His death comes as a result of complications from myasthenia gravis. Harold was the youngest of nine children born to Edward and Lucy Mae (Martin) Simpson on August 5, 1927 in Renwick Iowa. Most of his childhood was spent growing up in Minnesota. Harold came to Rapid City after joining the United States Air Force, where he met and married his soul mate Anna Marie (Zacher) in 1949. Five children were added to their family: Ben, Ed, Sue, Sharon and Sandy. After serving in the USAF, Harold worked at Gambles, and joined the National Guard Reserves before becoming a Mailman and then Maintenance Supervisor with the United States Post Office in Rapid City. He retired from the Post Office in 1988 after 36 years of Government Service. Harold kept himself very busy by helping his five children with many projects, which became his full time job. The most recent was delivering flowers for one of his daughters, which helped him fulfill his other passion, to find the perfect new cars and was always on a quest for a new vehicle.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann; one sister, Ione Fortstrom and one brother, Reuben, both of Minnesota; children Ben Simpson of Belle Fourche; Ed and Deborah Simpson of Spearfish and their children Michael and Kristina; Sue and Phil Bechard of Black Hawk and Sue's children Mario and Tyson Volmer and Shelli Hirchert; Sharon and Tim Faiman of Rapid City and their children Amber, Amy and Corey; Sandy and "O" (Orwin) Axdahl of Box Elder and Sandy's children Cassandra Kistler; Nichole Narlock; and Pamela Herzog; several step-grandchildren including Stacee Bechard; and six great-grandchildren Nova Volmer, Noah and Emma Hirchert, Trinity and Ashlyn Kistler and Isabella Simpson and step great-grandchildren Ian and Chelsea.

He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, never allowing himself to be unavailable for any occasion or task. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM Monday, with a Christian Wake Service at 7 PM Monday, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 30th, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Inurnment, with military honors, will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
