TYPHOID CLAIMS VICTIM
Lucy Brisbin Dead At Eagle Grove— Sister Very Low

Eagle Grove. Oct. 3.—(Special.) — Tho funeral of Miss Lucy Brisbin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Brisbin, was held Saturday from the Methodist church, her death being due to typhoid fever, with which she had been sick for three weeks. The only other child of the family, Ferne, the seventeen-year old daughter, is lying at the point of death and has not been told that her sister is dead. The case is a sad one and the parents have the sympathy of all.

Miss Lucy Brisbin was a young woman born and raised in Eagle Grove and beloved by all who knew her. The date of her birth was November 26, 1882, so she would have been twenty-five next month. She attended the Iowa. State Normal at Cedar Falls for a time and made friends there. She had not been well all summer but the parents have no idea where she contracted typhoid fever. She was sick only three weeks and for two weeks, was unconscious. The younger daughter has greater vitality and may possibly recover, but at present she is very low. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Lawton and E. A. Black of Waterloo have just returned home from the funeral of their niece, Miss Lucy Brisbin. Mrs. E. A. Black remained to assist during the illness of her other niece, Miss Ferne Brisbin.

One of the saddest afflictions of life came to the Wm. Brisbin family Thursday morning the 17th at 5 o'clock, when their first born passed beyond the arms of affection, the ministrations of sympathy and love and was stilled in death. The entire community felt the blow and mingled its generous tears with those, of the afflicted family.

Lucy Brisbin was born in Woolstock township, November 26th, 1882 and her entire life has been lived within this county. She was a graduate of the high schools of this city, class '01 and then completed her education with a course at the State Normal at Cedar Falls. She then entered the employ of “The Fair”' in this city, remaining with it until a short time before her illness when she arranged to stay awhile in the Briggs home on South Commercial with her sister, Fern.

Only a week after Miss Lucy's prostration with the dread disease, typhoid fever, her sister was attacked by the same malady and, forgetting all her own suffering, all her concern and anxiety were for, her younger and more delicate sister.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church Saturday at 2 o'clock p.m. The house was filled with neighbors and friends all feeling a personal grief in her sad and untimely demise. The Royal Neighbors, of which order she was a member, were present in a body and conducted their beautiful service at the grave.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Chapler, pastor of the deceased. The text chosen for the impressive sermon was, "Set thy house in order, for thou shalt die and not live." The deceased united with the Methodist church about four years ago and was a young lady of ideal character respected and loved by every acquaintance. The floral contributions were profuse and elegant; among the contributors were her high school classmates, the Royal Neighbors, and many other friends of the family.

Those from abroad attending the funeral were F. G. Yeoman of Millidgeville, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Black, Mr. and Mrs. Lawton of Waterloo. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, thrice hallowed to all the community by this pure, sacred deposit.
