Russell Herbert Oviatt, the son of Herbert C. and Esther (Farmer) Oviatt, was born November 9, 1917, in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1936. Russell served in the United States Army during W.W.II as a Lieutenant. On July 18, 1943, Russell was united in marriage with Margaret McCutcheon at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. The couple resided in Goldfield, where Russell operated the Locker Plant before becoming Postmaster. After retiring, they spent many years enjoying the warmth of friends and family in Iowa and Arizona. Margaret preceded him in death on July 30, 1998. Russell was a member of United Methodist Church in Goldfield, American Legion Post #370 and Oakridge Recreation Association.

Russell passed away at Wright Medical Center in Clarion on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the age of 92 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant sister, Inez and sister, Josephine. Survivors include his son, Russell Dean Oviatt and wife Maureen of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Russell Clayton Oviatt and wife Sarah and Brian James Oviatt and wife Tracey; great grandchildren, Ann Margaret Oviatt, Pacience Catherine Oviatt, Roselyn Grace Oviatt, Owen Burke Oviatt and Irelynn Mae Oviatt, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Mary Margaret Faulkner of Portland, OR; loving nieces and nephews, Beverly (McCutcheon) Jacobson, Barbara (McCutcheon) Dodge, Nancy (Matthew) Bradley and Bruce Matthew; and a very special friend, Kathryn Hansen.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24, 2010,10:30 A.M. at United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Pastor Karen Dearchs and Pastor Dale Schoening officiating. Visitation is Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
