THORNTON, IA — Gladys Hughes, 85, of 2327 S. Eagle Ave., Thornton, died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) at Harlingen, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Salem United Methodist Church, of Meservey, with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey.

Gladys Hughes was born March 17, 1913, in Butler County. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Hughes, of Thornton; one daughter, Marilyn Fischer, of Winston, Mo.; three grandchildren; four sisters, Alice Holmes, of Waterloo; Anna Hirsh, of Clarksville; Nettie Lebeck, of Shellrock; and Gertrude Bienemann, of Clarksville; and two brothers, Harold Remley, of Dodge Center, Minn. and Marlowe Remley, of Waverly. She was preceded in death by her parents.
