BELMOND, IA - Harmen G. Trampel, 84, of Belmond, died Friday (Jan. 26, 2001) at the Belmond Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Reformed Church, Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church Thursday. Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond is in charge of arrangements.
Harmen George Trampel, the son of Peter and Jennie (Schaa) Trampel was born at Kamrar, on July 31, 1916. He moved with his family to a farm southeast of Klemme, where he attended country school. He worked as a farmhand for several years before his marriage to Eula Veenstra on April 5, 1942, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, in Klemme. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1942, and served during World War II, at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., San Antonio, and Brownsville, Texas. After his honorable discharge, he and Eula moved to a farm southeast of Swaledale, and in 1947 they moved to their present farm near Meservey. They farmed together until they retired to Belmond in 1991. Harmen was a member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey, where he had served as a deacon.
Those thankful for sharing his life are his wife, Eula, of Belmond; sons, Larry Trampel and his wife, Bonnie, of Albert Lea, Minn., Darrell Trampel and his wife, Christine, of Ames; daughters, Janice Youngblood, of Ankeny, and Linda Spalla of Mason City; grandchildren, Carol Farris, Roger Trampel, Barbara Trampel, Christopher Trampel, Rebecca Trampel, Alexander Youngblood, Jennifer Spalla, Sara Spalla, and a great-grandson, Devin Trampel; a sister, Anna Conners, of Klemme; brother, Clarence Trampel and his wife, Ruth, of Klemme; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter, infant brother, brother, John Trampel and sister, Wemkie Cavitt. Tenold Funeral Home.
