Mason City Globe Gazette, IowaMANKATO, Minn. - Blanche Greer, 79, of Mankato, Minn., formerly of Meservey, died on Sunday (March 21, 1999) at the Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato, Minn. Services for Blanche Greer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Salem United Methodist Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey, IA.
Blanche Greer was born on Aug. 3, 1919, in Stanford, Ky., the daughter of Morgan and Martha (Kinningham) Slusher. She attended Crab Orchard School System in Crab Orchard, Ky. She was united in marriage to Gordon Greer on Nov. 24, 1934, in Stanford. They farmed for a number of years and she worked as a seamstress for the Goodall Factory, making Palmbeach suits in Danville, Ky. In 1949, they moved to Meservey, where she became the school cook until she and her husband purchased and operated the Greers Cafe for many years. Blanche enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and gardening. She belonged to the Meservey Garden Club and received many awards at the North Iowa Fair for her flowers and garden goods. She was an avid quilter belonging to the Salem United Methodist Quilting Club. She also belonged to the Meservey Improvement Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Carole Gealow, of Mankato, and Shirley Hohensee and her husband, Leonard, of Pocahontas, Iowa; four sons, Robert Greer and his wife, Jean, of Englewood, Fla., Glenn Greer and his wife, Judy, of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dennis Greer and his wife, Susan, of Owatonna, Minn., and William Greer and his wife, Michelle, of Burnsville, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchldren; one sister, Jane Jurgenson and her husband, Dr. Earl, of Clear Lake, Iowa; and two brothers, William Slusher and his wife, Virginia, of Overland Park, Kan., and Ronald Slusher and his wife, Sharon, of Lawrenceville, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two grandchildren, three brothers, and three sisters. Grarup Funeral Home.
