BELMOND, IA - Lloyd Lockman, 83, passed away Thursday (March 1, 2001) at Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond with Pastor Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to the service.
Lloyd Lockman, son of Elmer (Pete) and Myrtle (Gideon) Lockman, was born May 18, 1917, in Moravia, Iowa, in Appanoose County. He attended grade school in rural Moravia. On Sept. 18, 1940, Lloyd was united in marriage to Lillie Peddle at Moravia and to this union two children were born. Lloyd did a variety of things during his life. He worked in a coal mine, farmed, drove truck and worked as a mechanic. He farmed around the Rowan area and was well known for the jokes he was always pulling on his friends and neighbors. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and traveling. He enjoyed their home in Kissee Mills, Mo., until he came back to Iowa to live with Judy for a few months before he went to an assisted living facility in Mason City. Lloyd then became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center in July of 2000. He had been in failing health.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lillie, of Belmond; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Pals, Meservey, and Sherry and Byron Barkema, Ely, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Joleyne, Jody, Joann, Tammy, Tracy, Lonnie and Lisa; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild due in September; a sister-in-law, Delores Lockman; and two nephews and one niece and their families. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers; a brother, Glenn; a nephew, Jerry Lockman; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
