March 27, 2007MASON CITY — Ella Lena Schutt, 94, of Mason City, died Monday (March 26, 2007) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Private graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, with the Rev. Paul Nelson, of St. James Lutheran Church, officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. James Church and Hospice of North Iowa.
Ella Lena Schutt was born on May 15, 1912, in Grafton, the daughter of Albert and Kathrina (Claus) Trettin. Ella graduated from Rockford High School and the Iowa School of Beauty Culture, Des Moines. She was in business with her sister in Kanawha. She was united in marriage to Carl A. Schutt on Oct. 19, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa. They moved to Mason City in 1943. To this union six children were born. She continued to work as a free-lance hairdresser as time permitted. Ella’s special interests were caring for her family, gardening, sewing, painting ceramics and, in retirement, extensive travel. The most notable trips were to Denmark to meet her husband’s family and a trip to China. She was a member of St. James Lutheran and was an active member, participating in many women’s organizations.
She is survived by six children: Rosalyn Calhoun, of Mason City, Richard (Beth) Schutt, of Centennial, Colo., Linda (Robert) Kellogg of Brighton, Colo., David (Debbie) Schutt of Centennial Colo., Connie (Terry) Yeager of Omaha, Neb., John (Connie) Schutt of Littleton, Colo.; brothers: George (Arlene) Trettin, of Rockford, Edwin (Margaret) Trettin, of Rockford, Harold (Francis) Trettin, of Rockford; sister: Shirley Fullerton, of Rockford; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, Feb. 11, 1984; her parents, a grandson; two brothers, Walter and Wesley Trettin; and cousin, Orland Graper; two sisters, Marie Weigand and Mabel Trettin. Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.
