Annette Irene (Bakker) Eekhoff of the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha, Iowa, went to be with her Savior at 7:30 A.M., May 17, 2010. Annette passed away peacefully after a long life of loving her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Annette grew up in the rural Steamboat Rock area and attended school in Wellsburg. She graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1934. On November 10, 1942, Annette became Mrs. Peter Boyd Eekhoff and moved to the Kanawha area where she and her husband engaged in farming. After losing her husband at the early age of 60, Annette spent much of her free time learning several hobbies such as woodcarving, painting, and calligraphy. The family eagerly anticipated receiving her hand-made birthday cards each year. Annette loved working with flowers and doing yard work before her health caused her to enter the Kanawha Community Home at age 81. Annette had a good time at the home as many caring nurses' aides attended to her needs. She liked to give them a hard time, and they gave it right back! Annette was a long-time member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church where she was a faithful member of Ladies' Aid and of the Harmony Workers for the Christian school. She was a prayer warrior, praying every night for her family members and for others in need.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ken and Tena Eekhoff of Otley, Dennis and Margene Eekhoff of Orange City, Eileen and Jim Rozeboom of Chandler, Minnesota, Boyd “Bud” and Crystal Eekhoff of Belmond; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and their wives: Harold and Ordie Eekhoff, George and Helen Eekhoff, Paul and Jen Eekhoff, Harlan and Delores Eekhoff; sisters-in-law: Viola (John) Eekhoff and Dorothy (Raymond) Eekhoff; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
