MASON CITY, IA - Alphia E. Walker, 88, of 509 S. Adams Ave., died Monday (May 3, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City. A funeral service will be held for Alphia at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. Memorials may be directed to the the Alphia E. Walker Memorial in care of Shannon Solberg, 1016 16th St. N.E., Mason City, IA 50401.

Alphia Albright was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Wright County, the daughter of Ara and Jane (Reikens) Albright. She attended Belmond and Clear Lake Schools and Mason City Beauty School. Alphia was united in marriage to Lewis "Bud" Walker on March 5, 1949; to this union three children were born. Alphia and Lewis owned and operated the Westside Tavern in Nora Springs until their retirement. Alphia enjoyed playing cards, cooking, canning and shopping. Alphia was a great caregiver. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Shannon, whom she raised, and her great-grandchildren. When she wasn't taking care of her family Alphia spent her time with her Boston terrier, Scrappy; they were always together! She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Mason City.

Alphia is survived by her son, Larry Walker, Mason City; granddaughter Shannon (Jason) Solberg, Mason City; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Branden Solberg; sister Neva Lynch, Mason City; sisters-in-law, Helen Albright and Joyce Johansen; along with several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Alphia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis "Bud"; two sons, Harold Walker and one infant son; brothers Lloyd Albright and Fred (Betty) Albright; and sisters Viola and Dorothy Albright and Lavon (Ted) Johnson. Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel.
