Russ was born March 24, 1921, in Dows, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Charlotte Etta (Trowbridge) Hagen. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1939 where he was active in music and sports. On September 3, 1941, he was united in marriage to Iris J. Olson in Roland, Iowa. He served his Country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was Department Head in sporting goods with Montgomery Wards for 35 year, retiring in 1983. Russ is survived by his wife, Iris of Cedar Falls; daughters, Asenath (Peter) Poulas of Glendora, CA and Valari (Robert) Kaiser of Palmer, IA; sons, Kevin (Susan) Hagen of Cedar Falls, IA and Randy Hagen of West Des Moines, IA; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and brothers, Max (Carol) Hagen and Dean Hagen, both of Cedar Rapids. Russ died Monday, October 04, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Burnell “Hugo” Hagen; and sister, Corene Adams.
