Ella Irene (Trenary) Govern was born October 15, 1909 in Leopold, Indiana daughter of John Wesley and Sarah P. (Alvey) Trenary. Her family moved to Iowa in March 1917.
Ella married the “love of her life,” John Patrick Govern on November 23, 1927 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wesley, Iowa. The lived on a farm near Ledyard and then moved to a farm near Bancroft. In 1937 they moved to town and she made her home their, until she moved into the Bancroft Nursing Home. Ella loved her vegetable garden and her flowers, especially the roses. She looked forward to the day she could start canning and fill her jars for the winter. Her specialties were pickles. The last few years she has been in the Care Center in Nora Springs, Iowa where she was close to her daughters. Ella was still able to have a raised garden so she could pull weeds and watch vegetables grow.
Ella is survived by her children, John Govern and his wife Bonnie of Eagle Grove, Paul Thomas Govern and his wife June of New Lenox, IL, Patricia Mathre and her husband Roger of Nora Springs, Phyllis Krause and her husband Robert of Mason City, Jean Govern of Mason City, and Priscilla DeGeeter and her husband Melvin of Champaign, IL; and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Govern, Joe’s wife, of Riceville. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Ella always enjoyed having the little children come visit her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Patrick Govern on December 1, 1951; her son, Peter Joseph Govern on May 3, 2000; a daughter, Delores Irene Miller on November 3, 2004; and one brother and four sisters.
