Donald E. Stringer, 89, of Ogden, Iowa, died Sunday, December 21, 2008, at the Boone County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Paul Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with presentation of the flag conducted by the Edward J. Maas American Legion Post #55. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.
Donald Ernest Stringer was born on February 23, 1919, in Vincent, Iowa, the son of Edward and Lizzie (Schatz) Stringer. As a child Don moved with his family to a farm near Somers where he attended local school. Following his education, Don served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Don was united in marriage to Betty Barnett on July 12, 1945. The couple farmed east of Somers for 38 years. In 1983, they retired and moved to Ogden. Don was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Stringer of Ogden, Iowa; a daughter, Cindy (Douglas) Smith of Ogden, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kevin (Abbie) Smith of Urbandale, Iowa, and Julia (Adam) Glawe of Dana, Iowa; one great-grandson, Eli Lewis Glawe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
